Break free from your past
-
In order to break free from your past, you must learn where to place your attentions. Learn to look upwards, outwards, and inwards, rather then staring at your feet in shame.
-
Since we have accepted the gift God has given us, through Jesus, we have a new life. We don't want to be like those mentioned in Titus 1:16, whose actions contradict their claim to know God.
-
Keep your eyes fixed above daily. Jesus not only rose Himself, but He gave us the opportunity to rise with Him. Ephesians 2:6.
-
Look outwards. Fight the things that are socially acceptable that contradict our Christian standards. Sin doesn't rule us anymore, Romans 6:12-14. Hold yourself to those higher standards. We can do anything with Christ.
-
Look inwards at what is going on in our hearts and mind. Let the Lord help you identify areas to focus on. Allow Him to help you.

Colossians 3:1-11
So if you have been raised with Christ, seek the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is your[a] life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
5 Therefore, put to death what belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desire, and greed, which is idolatry. 6 Because of these, God’s wrath is coming upon the disobedient,[b] 7 and you once walked in these things when you were living in them. 8 But now, put away all the following: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and filthy language from your mouth. 9 Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self. You are being renewed in knowledge according to the image of your[c] Creator. 11 In Christ there is not Greek and Jew, circumcision and uncircumcision, barbarian, Scythian, slave and free; but Christ is all and in all.

Titus 1:16
They claim to know God, but they deny him by their works. They are detestable, disobedient, and unfit for any good work.
Ephesians 2:6
He also raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavens in Christ Jesus,

Romans 6:12-14
Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, so that you obey[a] its desires. 13 And do not offer any parts[b] of it to sin as weapons for unrighteousness. But as those who are alive from the dead, offer yourselves to God, and all the parts of yourselves to God as weapons for righteousness. 14 For sin will not rule over you, because you are not under the law but under grace.
